Child Enrichment Program

One of Thapovanam’s objectives is to provide children with an enriched environment to grow and develop normally that encourages cultural appreciation, aesthetic sensibility and learning. Through play and exploration, we aim to cultivate a healthy and dynamic new generation. We are working with children in Allaipiddy, where Thapovanam is located, as well as the surrounding villages, in keeping with the objectives mentioned above and vision of Thapovanam.

We launched this child enrichment program in October 2024 with the support of the funds generated from Thapovanam. Since then, we have received assistance from a group donor from Canada, Mrs. Sriusha Nalliah and Vembadi old girls, which has enabled us to continue the program from December 2024 onwards.

The activities for children in the program primarily focus on fostering growth through engagement with nature, culture and play.

We intend to encourage children from other areas in Jaffna to visit and participate in our programs, providing them with the opportunity to engage and enjoy the activities. Students from clubs such as the Rotary Club, representing various schools, have already participated and enjoyed their experience. We are committed to further enhancing and expanding this initiative in the future.

To implement this program, a part-time manager, one team leader and five facilitators have been recruited. They have all received basic training to support their roles. With this foundational training, the program activities are currently ongoing, and additional training will be provided to the team members (Annex 1) throughout the duration of the program.

Challenges: One of the key challenges we are facing is the lack of financial support to continue running this program beyond February. Despite our efforts, securing sustainable funding remains a significant hurdle to ensure the program’s continuity and growth. Well wishers are encouraged to donate the cost of running the Child Enrichment program for one month to longer periods. Please see Attached for the budget and donation details.
