MAY
On May 1, the children’s program report was submitted. On May 4 a facilitator discussion was held at CCH organization, which included beach sand art and drawing activities followed by tea and snacks. On May 10 a children’s event took place with various activities ending with tea and snacks. On May 21 an origami activity for facilitators was conducted by a CCH staff member. On May 24 an awareness session on children’s parliament activities was conducted by Social Sculptors organization along with an awareness session by the women and children’s police division. JUNE
On June 1, the treasurer taught accounting to the manager and facilitator coordinator. On June 7, medical certificates for swimming were obtained for children and facilitators. On June 10, a discussion took place at the Ocean University. On June 12 a meeting was held by the secretary and coordinator. On June 14, swimming training took place. On June 18, memorial food was served to children. On June 21, a children’s event featured meditation and swimming training, followed by tea and snacks. On June 22, facilitators had a written exam at 9:00 am and an interview at 3:00 pm. On June 24, waste was disposed into bins. JULY
On July 5th, Thapovanam held a special event for children. The day started with beach cleaning from 9:00am to 9:30am, followed by swimming instructions led by Mr. Christhuraja from Ocean University. Distinguished guests including Emeritus Prof. Dr. Daya Somasundaram and Father Damian presided over the event. A key discussion addressed alcohol abuse in Allaipiddy, with Dr. Somasundaram noting how addiction leads to poverty, domestic violence and social conflict. Schoolbags were donated to children by Mrs. Sriusha Nalliah, Mrs. Keetheswary Kirubarajan and Mrs. Ambika Ratnasabapathy. Children shared dreams of becoming doctors, police officers, lawyers, football players and teachers. The weekend of July 12-13, was filled with activities at Thapovanam. On Saturday July 12, children began with beach cleaning from 9:00am to 9:30am, followed by swimming instruction from Mr. Christhuraja of Ocean University. Lunch was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Bhavanandan to celebrate their child’s wedding. Children offered prayers, listened to speeches and gave words of thanks for the meal. AUGUST
August 2-3 began with a discussion at Thapovanam Mandapam on reducing alcohol and drug abuse to prevent problems faced by children. Participants included Emeritus Prof. Dr. Daya Somasundaram, Mr. T. Vijayasankar, Drug Prevention Officer Mr. Anton Premnath, Child Rights Promotion Officer Mrs. Jenani Kapilan, dramatist Mr. K. Sathiyaseelan and others. The group agreed that educating children about consequences of addiction and using art forms to raise awareness are key steps forward. Swimming instruction continued with Mr. Christhuraja while children played football and netball. A birthday celebration was held for Prof. Daya Somasundaram, followed by drama training with Mr. K.
